Who for president? Empty Who for president?

Post by milliam Sat May 14, 2011 10:33 pm

I noticed they already had one Republican debate the other day. Seemed pretty early, but I think the networks know that folks are more into politics these days and they need the ratings.

Anyone pulling for a particular person already? I hear that Herman Cain is actually doing quite well in the polls. I think he'd do pretty well as a president, but he's still a little wishy washy for me at times. Newt is a brillant man, but it sounds like his baggage will keep him out of it. There's plenty out there that like him, very few that dis-like him, and a whole bunch who just plain hate him! There's always Ron Paul...He's the man when it comes to the economy IMO, but the rest of his stance is probably too different from the norm these days for most people. The rest of the guys are just talking suits IMO, but I haven't really kept up with them all.

What say ye???

Huck's out. Guess I am leaning toward Herman Cain.

Who for president? Empty Re: Who for president?

Trump may be seeking the nomination, but I had a discussion with a friend on this the other day - and the consensus is that he's just a bit too weird personally to get the nod. He's a pretty darn good business man, but his personal life has been...messy at times.

Huckabee really didn't stand a chance, really.

As much as I like Sarah Palin the person, I don't think she's the right candidate for the job of President. There's already a lot of political baggage - quitting the job of Governor before her term was up, the fact that she preaches abstinence, but had a teenage daughter pop out a kid out of wedlock. The "scandal" surrounding the reasons she gave up the Gov gig. The failed run with McCain. I just don't think she's got a real shot.

There's really no candidates at this point that stand out and shine, with the political gravity to win the office. There is time to find someone though.

Good morning America had a little piece on the republican candidates, but they failed to even mention Herman Cain or Ron Paul. Seems like the media is already trying to take them out of the race.

I agree that Palin isn't right for the job. She's a great speaker and seems to be a great person, but I don't think she could get elected. She'd be good in someone's administration though.

Sounds like there's a lot of pressure on Chris Christie to run. I don't know much about him, but he seems like he could be a decent choice.

My first choice would be Michelle Bachmann. Despite some reservations because of previous things I've hear him say, my second pick right now would be Mr. Cain.

In an overall kind of way, we could do much, much worse.

Well, Trump is out. I guess he was just after the ratings like everyone said. Seems pretty low to me, come in toting the tea party line and then decide your show and money is more important than the country. I'm not saying he was our answer to our problems or that he was going to save it all, but he was talking like he thought he could do it, but I guess not.

That's the one big thing I like about Herman Cain...he knows the job is going to be hard, but he feels he needs to do it for the country.

Michelle Bachmann...she's not bad, but I'd have to see how she'd do in some of the debates.

Ron Paul still has those issues that the media is going to hang him with...legalizing drugs, not strong on the war etc. Like I said, he's the guy for the economy and in my mind, that's one of the most important things right now. Worst part, during the debate the other night, they wouldn't give him the economic questions, just the ones that they knew the main stream folks would disagree with him on.

Yeah, I'm with you on RP's money take and his Constitutional voting record....but when you say you'd be ok with osama bin laden still breathing.....i gotta wonder about you. At the very least those Seals saved us millions of dollars related to holding and giving him a trial. And what if he'd won!? Holy cow what a mess that would have been - and how much would that have empowered the muslims even more? Can't take that chance in my mind. He's a fiscal conservative for sure, but liberal on alot of other stuff.

I never heard him say he wanted Bin Laden to still be alive. I heard him say he was glad he was gone, but he wasn't all that happy with how it happened. His thinking does seem weird to us on that, but he bases it all on the constitution and how it says things should be done. That almost ties back to your blog post the other day about the father and the fly name (but that's probably a stretch). Anyway, Ron Paul doesn't seem to be wishy washy like the others. He tries to stick to the rule book...ie, the constitution.

Today he wants us to sell off the gold in Ft. Knox. the heroin thing. the mosque thing. the bin Laden thing. too much for me to be able to support the guy, even though he's right on Constitutional stuff almost 100% of the time.

As far as bin Laden....I'd be happy no matter how he got his. They could have lured him in for a free flat-screen TV and skinned him and covered him in salt, sand gnats and then dumped him into a tank of snake-heads.

I haven't been into this enough to hear about the Ft. Knox gold (BTW, I've heard there isn't actually anything there anymore) or the mosque thing. I'll admit that he's way out there on a lot of things, but I think we've gotten a long way away from the constitution and that's why he's way out there. No doubt that times have changed, and some aspects of the constitution might not fit so it might not guard against all things, but if we say that, other can also say that its meaning has changed and the freedoms it does list (ie. gun ownership) need to be changed.

I'll have to do some more studying on everything he said.

I agree that Bin Laden needed taking care of. For someone like that, I'm not sure there are any freedoms that need to be worried about, but as soon as you say that, then the gobment could just use the same thoughts going after someone who is innocent. Our freedoms can be a double edged sword at times, but there sure seems like there are cases where we should just forget the courts and send in the snipers.

Now, with those cases, do I know the guy is actually guilty? All I know with this stuff is what the media has told me. That's one of the issues with things these days, we don't see them for ourselves (and can't most of the time due to location and time involved), so we have to take what the media delivers to us. The internet has helped in some ways to get the truth out, but its also an avenue for those spouting conspiracy theories as well.

Can we just find a copy of the Necronomicon, bring to life a Zombie Regan, and run him for a 3rd term?
