Making your own foam cutters
I'd like to have a set of foam "wing cutters" but man - they want $40 or more for a set of cutters that only do one hook size!? That's a little too much for me to spend. But I can't think of a way to make my own? Anyone got any ideas?

If you can get hold of some thin copper or steel tubing, you can squish them into the shape you want, sharpen the mouth of them up, and BAM - wing or body punches. I got that idea from a friend who ties up foam bugs - he uses a sharpened copper tube to make foam circles, which he glues together and sands into shape for popper/slider bodies. You can get some really neat color variations doing that
If you're a bit more handy, and have access to some sheet metal, you can probably bend up some cutting dies using simple tools.

I always looked at the craft stores to see if they had any of the cutting dies that would resmeble something I could tie with. They have all sorts of shapes that those things will cut, but nothing that I could find that would help with tying it seemed. Maybe Joe could tell you what he has in his scrap booking kit and you can make some wings out of it .

You can make some reasonable looking ant and beetle bodies with craft scissors with the scalloped blades.I have several of differing shapes. Main thing is to make sure the edges match on each side of the foam you cut.
