Ok, I know we all have opinions. Let's hear yours on fly lines.

I'm looking for a 3wt line. DT more than likely. I hear great things about shark skin, but $100? Rio gold sounds good too, but it's $75.

Anyone heard of Aquanova? It's supposed to be super floating and it's only $25. I've heard that it's actually Cortland 333 though.

Help me out here.

Can't help you dude.......any purchases for my self are based on "return of investment!"

So, that in mind, I'd go el-cheapo!!

Yeah, I won't get a lot of use out of it either, but I'd like a line that will float when I do use it. The Aquanova stuff advertises a specific gravity of .75. I'm going to have to see what other lines are at, if they even let that info out.

Here's a pretty cool article I found about fly lines. Sounds like all of the big guys are still busy trying to come out with the latest and greatest:

John Cross up at Unicoi told me that the Aquanova lines are as good as any of the high end lines. IMHO when Mr. Cross says something, then you can take it to the bank...

Bannen, thanks for the input on the Aquanova lines. I had been reading mixed stuff on the internet, but I think most of it was old. I guess I might just have to give the stuff a try.

I've been curious about those lines myself since I'm the proud owner of more than one 75 dollar fly line that sinks after about 30 casts...lol...let us know how they work out...

I just picked up a DT 333 3wt line from Cabela's for about $27 on sale. It worked 10 years ago. I guess it'll work just fine now.

just sayin.

Dang Owl, didn't see your post there.

I got the Aquanova line the other day. 3WT DT. Putting it on my reel I noticed that either its a lot longer line, or much bigger in diameter. I had to take off all of the backing I had on there to get it to fit. No big deal of course.

First off, it doesn't have a fancy welded loop on it. I was really hoping it would. I ended up just tying a loop in the end of the line. Its kind of bulky, but it was easy enough. I guess that should also help the tip float since there's extra out there.

Fishing it, it floated very well for almost the whole time. After a few hours and some heavy nymphing, the tip was still floating fine, but the belly about 2 ft after the tip was having a little trouble. The next day I never noticed and sinking at all.

All and all, it seems to be a good line so far. It was cheap and we'll do fine for the small rivers (I did fish it on the Tuck though with no problems). I'll post back if anything changes, or if I ever fish it again this year Very Happy .
